ISTIP Development Team Lead — Thales / DRDC
January 2014 – March 2014
To advance its Science and Technology program, the Command, Control and Intelligence (C2I) section of the Department of National Defence built the Intelligence Science & Technology Integration Platform (ISTIP): a service-oriented architecture whose web services cover military-intelligence information management and exploitation, exposed through widgets in a human-machine interface layer and handling complex data structures.
The mandate covered the first increment of a knowledge-engineering support system: widgets letting users manipulate and manage the data structures that represent complex knowledge — ontology, proposition, inference rule, kinematics and geospatial-analysis configuration, text-based model, spatial characteristic, and domain knowledge cartouche.
I acted as agile team lead of a four-developer team embedded in a group of three teams. Beyond stabilizing the development infrastructure with the tech lead, I defined the architecture of the web services to build, contributed to development, and supported the team through its challenges, mainly around the still-immature Maven infrastructure and AngularJS.
Impact
- •Agile leadership of a four-developer team among three teams
- •Web services architecture for the knowledge-engineering system
- •Stabilization of the Maven development infrastructure with the tech lead
- •Widgets managing complex knowledge structures (ontologies, inference rules)
